About Melissa Villaloz

I am an orofacial myofunctional therapist based in the Philadelphia area, specializing in identifying and treating orofacial muscle dysfunctions that impact breathing, swallowing, sleep, and posture. My work is deeply personal: I was born with an undiagnosed tongue tie and struggled for years with speech difficulties, chronic ear infections, recurrent strep throat, clenching, TMJ pain, and the many frustrations that come with them. Despite countless treatments, nothing addressed the true root cause of my issues—only the symptoms. Discovering myofunctional therapy was a turning point in my life, offering the answers I had long been seeking. It changed everything for me, and now I am passionate about helping others experience that same transformation.

With a background in dental hygiene, I have witnessed firsthand how tongue ties, low tongue posture, mouth breathing, and dysfunctional swallowing patterns can negatively impact oral health. These issues often contribute to periodontal disease, tooth decay, chronic inflammation, poor jaw and facial development, misaligned or crowded teeth, and more. Proper oral function is essential—not just for breathing and swallowing, but for maintaining a healthy, vibrant smile.

I understand how overwhelming it can feel when fundamental functions like breathing, speaking, swallowing, or jaw movement aren’t working as they should. That’s why I take a compassionate, individualized approach to therapy, guiding my clients through exercises designed to retrain the muscles of the tongue, face, and airway for improved function and overall well-being. Myofunctional disorders are often multifaceted, typically involving multiple contributing factors, so I believe in a multidisciplinary approach to ensure comprehensive care.

There is nothing more rewarding than witnessing things finally “click” for my clients, just as they did for me. If you are struggling with oral function challenges, I would be honored to help you find the clarity, relief, and long-term improvements you deserve. I am passionate about educating my clients and collaborating with other healthcare professionals to develop effective treatment plans. My mission is to empower you with the tools and knowledge to enhance your quality of life—one breath, one swallow, and one smile at a time. Whether you’re facing tongue thrust, mouth breathing, TMJ dysfunction, or sleep-disordered breathing, I am here to guide you toward lasting change.
