Importance of Nasal Breathing & Correct Tongue Posture

Why Nasal Breathing Matters interest

Nasal breathing is one of the simplest yet most powerful ways to support overall health—especially for individuals with allergies. The nose is designed to do far more than move air in and out. It filters allergens and foreign particles, slows the airflow, and warms and humidifies the air before it reaches the lungs, making breathing more efficient and gentle on the airway.

The nasal and paranasal sinuses also produce nitric oxide, a vital molecule that plays an important role in the body. Nitric oxide acts as a natural vasodilator and anti-inflammatory, helping to improve oxygen uptake, increase lung volume, and enhance blood flow to the arteries, veins, and nerves. This supports cardiovascular health, immune function, and efficient oxygen delivery throughout the body.

Consistent nasal breathing is also essential for maintaining proper oral posture, dental health, and balanced facial development. In contrast, habitual mouth breathing can contribute to airway inflammation, reduced oxygenation, and oral health concerns over time.

Breathing through the nose isn’t just a habit—it’s a foundational component of whole-body wellness

This is why myofunctional therapy focuses on restoring proper nasal breathing - addressing the root of airway, oral function, and whole body health rather then just the symptoms.
